Escape From Central London

And Discover The Peace and Tranquility of

The Gardens of London

If you are staying in one of our luxury London Apartments this Spring or Summer, then take a short ride on the London Underground to Richmond and enjoy the peace and splendor of “Rural London”!

At J&K Apartments, we really do love London – all of it!!  The wonderful architecture, amazing museums, fabulous theaters, historical sites, world class restaurants, incredible shopping experiences and of course the Royal Parks; London really is one of the most wonderful Capital Cities in the world.   As exciting and cosmopolitan as Central London is, we at J&K Apartments would like to share with you a slightly less well known area of London.

If you choose to stay in one of our luxury London serviced apartments in Kensington, Chelsea or Knightsbridge, such as Cheval Gloucester Park, The Apartments By the Sloane Club or Beaufort House, then why not take a short trip down to Richmond.   Just 20 minutes travel time on the London Underground will transport you into quite a different world!

We can recommend three wonderful days out in Richmond.

Perfect for family days out or to escape from the hustle and bustle of the City, relax and unwind on an English summer day taking a peaceful stroll along the River Thames from Ham down to Petersham Nurseries, an internationally prized garden center.    Here you can wonder at and be inspired by the stunning array of plants, flowers, antiques and garden ornaments they have on offer.  Then relax in their gardens  or glasshouse restaurant with afternoon tea and a slice of homemade cake or even indulge in a glass of champagne.  This really is a place of calm, away from the bustle of London and is somewhere that respects and is in tune with nature and positive living.

Another wonderful place to spend the afternoon is at Ham House, situated on the banks of the River Thames.  This rare and atmospheric Stuart house is internationally recognised for its superb collection of paintings, furniture and textiles, largely acquired 400 years ago. It is also reputed to be one of the most haunted houses in Britain!  Outside, the restored 17th-century garden includes a productive kitchen garden containing many heritage crops, the formal ‘Wilderness’, complete with summerhouses, and many beautiful spots perfect for a picnic.

If you are looking for real escapism, head to The Isabella Plantation at Richmond Park which is an ornamental woodland garden, full of exotic plants and is designed to be of interest all year round.    To stroll around this stunning oasis of tranquility is a joy.  The gardens have over 15 known varieties of deciduous azalea and houses the national collection of 50 Kurume Azaleas, which were introduced to Western Europe in the 1920s.  Here you will also be amazed by the 50 different species of Rhododendron and 120 hybrids as you stroll over pretty bridges interspersed with streams and ponds.  We guarantee that you will feel so relaxed after spending even just an hour or two here!
