J&K recommends a visit to Warwick Castle
If you have some spare time when you are coming to London and can spare a day trip to the countryside, then we would highly recommend a trip to the historic Warwick Castle.
Warwick Castle has been highlighted recently in the current BBC Sunday night drama The White Queen in which it was occupied by Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick, also known as Warwick the Kingmaker. Neville was the wealthiest and most powerful English peer of his age with strong political connections both in England and abroad. Through fortunes of both marriage and inheritance, Warwick was a central political figure in 1450’s.
The Castle has survived the ever-changing fortunes of history since 1264 when in was attacked, having also been besieged in 1642 and damaged by fire in 1871. Warwick Castle remained under the stewardship of the Earls of Warwick and later by the Greville family as a private home until 1978. The castle was then over taken by what is now known as Merlin Entertainments Group, in 2007 and to this day remains under their guardianship.
Now visiting Warwick Castle is a great day out for all the family with so much to see and do. Visit in the summer months and you will find there are shows, flying eagles, jousting tournaments to name but a view. From London to Warwick by train or by car takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. You can save up to 25% off ticket prices by booking a week in advance.
